India’s National Disaster Management Authority Tests Cell Broadcast Alert System.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of India is currently conducting tests on the Cell Broadcast Alert System (CBAS) in partnership with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The CBAS is designed to send emergency messages to all mobile devices in specified areas, ensuring that as many people as possible receive critical information during natural disasters such as cyclones, floods, earthquakes, and droughts. This system was created by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) and has been effectively utilized in developed countries.

To conduct these tests, the NDMA sent messages in Hindi and English to subscribers of major mobile network providers such as Vodafone, Idea, Jio, Airtel, and BSNL. These messages caused cell phones to vibrate and beep upon receipt.
