Eligibility Requirements for the JEE Advanced

The requirements for eligibility have been loosened up a bit for this year’s competition. Candidates can look at the information below to see if they are eligible to take the JEE Advanced in 2022.

There are five factors to consider:

  1. Results of the JEE Main 2022: Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in the BE/BTech Paper of the JEE (Main) 2022 exam. This requirement applies to all candidate categories. You can check the following table to see how many applicants will be accepted into each category for JEE Advanced 2022.
  2. There is an age restriction, and applicants must have been born on or after October 1, 1997, to be eligible. The age requirements for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories are pushed back by five years, meaning that these candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1992.
  3. A candidate is allowed to take the JEE (Advanced) a maximum of thrice in each of the two years that immediately follow the first attempt.
  4. Candidates who graduated from high school in 2021 or 2022 are eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam in 2022.

Exceptions to this standard for the current year are as follows:

  • Candidates who first took the class 12th (or equivalent) examination in 2020 OR 2021 AND successfully registered for JEE (Advanced) 2021 but did not appear in any of the papers are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2022. Candidates must have successfully registered for JEE (Advanced) 2021. Candidates falling into this category are exempt from meeting any additional requirements.
  • Candidates who will have completed Class 12 or its equivalent in 2020 are only allowed one attempt at taking the JEE Advanced exam; they can do so in either 2020 or 2021. In addition to that, they need to pass the JEE Main 2022 exam and be among the top 2.5 lakh applicants.

Earlier admission at IITs: A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT in the past, regardless of whether or not the candidate continued in the program or accepted an IIT seat by reporting “online” or at a “reporting center” in the past. This rule applies regardless of whether or not the candidate continues in the program.
